Thai body massage intro with Monika – 2003, Koh Phangan, Thailand

This is a short thai massage introduction made in Thailand at 2003, Koh Phangan island. Thai massage is the most complex massage threapy. Works not only on the pyhisical body, focuses on the enrgy lines too. Thai body massage also includes different stretching and bending exercises. The use of kyropractic elements makes it unique. At 2019  Traditional Thai massage added to ‘cultural heritage’ list on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

 

I consider myself really lucky. I spent the better part of the last 25 years studying and practicing Nuad Boran (known as Thai massage). I spent the first 7 years in Thailand, where the local masters introduced me to the fundamentals of Thai massage.

In 1999, I acquired all the certificates and diplomas available at the time at the Wat Pho school in Bangkok. Every year since then I seek out new masters to further my knowledge primarily in Asia or where ever I may be in the world.

What’s the thai body massage?

Traditional Thai massage is basically different from methods developed and used in Europe.

It is based on the self-curing strength of the body, it means a complex method that enhances the harmony of body, soul and spirit.

Thai body massage is an energethic therapy massage

According to the Eastern medical traditions, the prerequisite of health is the unhindered flow of life energy (chi) in the body’s energy channels. Thai massage concentrates on 10 main energy lines (channels) that are called sen. Its basic goal is to create harmony in the human body, release energy blocks and supply shortages of the energy lines.

The procedure, applied on the whole body, has a special choreography.

Thai massage is a so-called dry massage since no oils and creams are used. During the treatment the guest wears light clothes made of cotton.

During the massage, which takes 1,5-2 hours, the masseur (unlike in European massages) is not only working with hands but also using forearms, legs, knees, elbows, and feet to stimulate physiological acupuncture points on the energy lines.

Although it can be applied for the treatment of insomnia, stress, headache, and migraine.
